Seed Starting System for Farm Models (2024)

Rated 3 out of5 byG Harris fromNot a complete system yetI decided to try the seed starting system after my attempt with a starting tray failed. Overall it was very successful. I did lose some seedlings early on due to green algae. Unfortunately, neither the grow domes or the plant spacers that are used with the regular grow system fit the seed starting tray. And none are provided or even available from AeroGarden. I quickly realized I had a problem and cut out pieces of foil and paper to cover the unused spaces. Then I used clear plastic food containers as grow domes. This system is not as complete as I would expect it to be so I don’t feel I can recommend it without further improvements.

Rated 5 out of5 byMark from Michigan fromBest germination system I have ever used!Worked very well, planted two seeds per pod. They all sprouted and I had to thin. I would suggest for outside gardeners not to plant too early indoors. I made the mistake of planting my tomato pods too soon. They were a little spindly when I transplanted outside, but I trench planted and they were amazing. I like to plant my own seeds because the nurseries do not have the varieties we like for canning. I will continue to use this process as it is better than seed starting in soil. The convenience and success on germination rates were far superior to anything I have used before. I hope this review helps. Mark from Michigan

Rated 5 out of5 byHappyCamper fromNice accessoryI’m using this to start red yuccas from seeds that I found on plants in my yard, and they’re doing great so far. There isn’t a port for filling water, so I just pour water through one of the seedling positions. The roots are free to go through the large openings in the bottom; I haven’t removed the seedlings for hardening off, yet, but I’m sure they will come out okay. It would be nice to have plugs for the positions where germination isn’t happening, so I may make some for this purpose. Water gets distributed to all positions, which is impressive. It would also be nice to have a tray to set the whole thing into for the purpose of taking outside to harden off the seedlings. I like this thing very much!

Rated 5 out of5 byAnonymous fromThe Farm XL is the greatest AeroGarden yet!The Farm XL setup process was very easy. So far I have grown peppers and lettuce with great results. Once it got going, there was so much lettuce I found myself raising the lights to keep from burning the tops because I couldn’t eat it fast enough. Delicious! Speaking of raising the lights .... a simple press of a button ... genius and each side runs independently. Love that! I just started some tomatoes in the grow anything seed pod kit; all have sprouted so I have high hopes. I highly recommend the Farm XL, especially for those veggies you want to grow that are tall.

Rated 5 out of5 bybnellie fromTemplate for the Farm 24I am super excited to start my seeds. I wanted to share this template I created in case it is helpful to anyone else. They don't currently offer one for the Farm 24. I am going to write in each circle what I plant or maybe color code it. Happy planting

Rated 5 out of5 byDonna H fromGreat addition to our home garden! These starter trays are awesome! We've had great success with our seeds and germination rates. The only thing I'd recommend is that you plan to group your seeds based upon germination rate so that you don't have overshadowing of shorter seedlings from their faster growing neighbors.

Rated 5 out of5 byMike fromSeed starting for garden and indoorsI started so many things in this system, lavender, peppers, tomatoes, summer savory, lovage, cucumbers… the only thing that didn’t grow was thyme and it could have been my ancient seeds.Make sure you pick up a few 50 packs of grow sponges. I planted most things in containers and my garden, but I have some grow baskets I put some cherry tomatoes and herbs in before I convert my farm back from seed starter to growing for indoor use.

Rated 5 out of5 byEmma Lovejoy fromAeroGarden Seed Starter to the RescueWe're in lockdown. Garden centres are sparsely stocked or closed altogether. With a "Farm" seed starter, I am able to grow all the flower and veggie plants I will need to fill our garden beds. The seeds sprouted in half the time stated on the seed packets with hardly any duds, so I can do successive sproutings before the outdoor growing season begins. The seedlings I've already potted are robust after their great start in the Farm and continue growing well in coldframes until planting time.
